Concealer Comparisons, Swatches

By Laura. Posted July 22, 2011 at 2:30 am.

I decided to do comparison swatches of all my concealers.  All are pretty good matches for me, though many look too dark in the photos.  They aren’t really, the pictures are taken on my inner arm which is a bit paler than my face.  I did a thick swatch of each on the right, then a blended swatch on the left.

  • Lancome Effacernes in Light Buff ($29.50/.52oz) : I use this mainly for undereyes, as it is long-wearing.
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15 ($16.50/.30oz): This is great for both blemishes and undereyes.  It is very long wearing, a bit moreso than the others.  The only downside is that the pump is kind of hard to control and dispenses a ton of product.  I recommend having a little sample jar available to catch the excess and save it.
  • Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit in Warm Ivory ($32/.05oz concealer and .06oz powder): This is great for undereyes and also good for those light blemishes that need just an extra bit of coverage.  If you need serious coverage for blemishes though, this won’t do it for you.  I also really like the powder and use it to set all of my concealers.  The concealer is also available separately for $22.  So is the powder for that matter (the shade is Pale Yellow), $34/.38oz.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Concealer in Light ($22/.07): A slightly drier formula, opaque and great for blemishes.  Due to it’s stick form, it’s also great to keep in your bag for touch ups if needed.
  • Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque ($22/.05oz): Light Bisque isn’t a concealer per say, it’s a pink corrector for days when you have serious circles.  You put it on first, then put a concealer that matches your skin tone over it.  I know some wear it by itself, but that does not look right on me.

My skin tone is between NC15/20.  I lean more towards NC20 in summer time.  The foundations I wear are: MUFE HD in 117, BB Skin in Warm Ivory, BB Natural Finish in Sand (this one runs light), Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B10.

I really have no complaints about any of these concealers.  The ones that have the absolute longest wear are the 2 more liquidy ones, MAC Pro Longwear and Lancome Effacernes.  This isn’t to say that the rest don’t wear very well, it’s just that those 2 set like woah.  I rubbed and rubbed my arm to try to get them off and they wouldn’t budge.  The only downside to Pro Longwear is that I wear the lightest shade, which is obviously not that light.  Any true pale girls will probably not find a match.

I am very happy with my concealer stash and probably won’t be buying any more, except maybe the new NARS stick concealer that is coming out soon (but that’s mostly because I’m a NARS addict and will try anything of theirs).   I’d gladly recommend any of these to anyone looking for a new concealer!
