Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronze Universel Swatch, Comparison

By Laura. Posted June 20, 2011 at 5:45 pm.

I recently purchased the Chanel Bronze Universal bronzing makeup base ($48/1oz).  This is a cream bronzer that comes in a screw top jar.  I’ve been in a tizzy of bronzer obsession after years of not really caring about it.   I still have a few more on my wishlist, including the Guerlain Terracotta Skin Healthy Glow “Foundation” ($49/1oz).  I have no idea why they call it foundation, it’s clearly a cream/gel bronzer that comes in 2 shades – Blonde and Brunette (just like their famous powder bronzers, of which Blonde is amazing).   I got a sample of the Brunette Terracotta Skin “foundation” in a recent Sephora order, and I decided to swatch that next to Chanel Bronze Universel.   The first two images are clickable so you can view in full size.

Obviously, I swatched both products very heavily so they would be noticeable in photos.  Both products are definitely buildable and will look natural on a wide variety of skin tones.  I’m NC15/20 and I can wear both.  The Guerlain is the most blendable and can be worn extremely sheer.  As you can see, the base colors of both are extremely similar, but the Chanel has a bit of shimmer, though it is unnoticeable when you actually put it on and blend it in.  If you are pretty light like I am, go slowly when you apply this and check yourself in natural light.  I use a fluffy synthetic bristle angled brush (the HD angled blush brush from Walmart to be exact) to apply the Chanel.  The Guerlain has a gel like texture and comes in a squeeze tube, and I find it best to apply that with my fingers.  All in all, both products are very nice and I would definitely repurchase the Chanel.  Since the 2 shades are very similar, I’m considering purchasing the Guerlain in Blonde, which is lighter than the Brunette.  I found a lovely swatch of the Blonde on this Spanish blog, here.  Still, that shade almost looks too light.  We’ll just have to wait and see, and be thankful for Sephora’s great return policy!
